Davis Zamboanga is a composer, trombonist, and educator in the San Francisco Bay Area. He earned his BA in music from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he served as the CEO of Mustang Band from 2019 to 2020 and founded the Cal Poly Composition Forum in 2019.

As a composer, he creates new and fresh pieces through the juxtaposition of techniques, styles, and music traditions. His works have been performed and read by various Cal Poly ensembles. He is a well-versed trombonist and has performed with the Arthur White MERGE Collective, San Luis Obispo Symphony, Central Coast mashup band Brass Mash, and the Cal Poly symphony, wind ensemble, jazz band, brass ensemble, trombone choir, and marching band.

In addition to being a private low-brass instructor at JAMS Music, he holds a variety of teaching positions: He is the K-5 music teacher at Woodroe Woods School in San Leandro, the visual technician for the Saint Francis High School Lancer Band in Mountain View, and a drum major instructor for the United Spirit Association Band Program. In each role, he crafts personalized content that builds confidence and promotes growth.

Andy is a dedicated and passionate music educator with extensive experience working with low brass students, particularly on trombone and euphonium. Having pursued formal training at the Berklee College of Music and the University of North Texas, Andy has developed a robust jazz and classical music skill set. Throughout his career, Andy has been an active performer, serving as 2nd Trombone for the Tracy Community Band and the Tracy Jazz Ensemble and holding prominent positions such as 3rd Trombone in the Pleasanton Community Band and 2nd Trombone with the Livermore Amador Symphony Orchestra during the 2022 season.

This diverse performance background enriches his teaching, allowing him to impart real-world experience to students. Andy holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of North Texas, where he specialized in jazz and classical music education and participated in various ensembles, including the Green Brigade Marching Band, North Texas Lab Bands, and Repertoire Orchestra. He pursued a master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Texas at Tyler, deepening his expertise in jazz and classical music through active participation in the Jazz Ensemble and Wind Symphony. In addition to his performance and educational credentials, Andy studied Music Business at the Berklee College of Music, focusing on music production & engineering, and contemporary writing. He engaged in various ensembles, including small jazz groups, a hip-hop ensemble, and a big band, solidifying his versatility in the music industry.

With a commitment to fostering musical growth and a love for teaching, Andy inspires students to explore the rich world of low brass instruments, empowering the next generation of musicians to reach their full potential.
